The theme that seems to always emerge from my work is that of revealing our true selves in order to grow and progress. The journey we take to get to achieve growth is all we ever experience and passes by before we realized what has happened.
I want to immortalize the moments we place little value on in our days. The lists, forms, receipts, random encounters, car travel-- experiences and items that may not seem important on the grand scheme of our life but enabled us to get somewhere nonetheless. The honoring of these moments and materials take form in my work as abstract patterns, road stripes, tire marks, and hand-written impressions on clay.
I work primarily with clay slabs and at times incorporate wheel thrown elements to create forms. With these techniques I make both sculptures and utilitarian vessels.
